iPhone Interface On S60 & A PC Application That Controls Your Phone

I just came across this neat Flash Lite file that transforms the S60 devices into an iPhone for all those of you who like the slick interface. It is not compatible with Flash Lite 3 but runs smoothly on the inbuilt Flash application. It is great to use as a screensaver also. However certain icons such as YouTube do not perform the corresponding task.

Freeware: A Fully Featured You Tube Client

 

Sebastian Jedruszkiewicz has released the first version of emTube, a freeware YouTube client application and FlashVideo player. emTube allows you to browse (by search, by featured video, by top rated videos and by most viewed videos), view and download YouTube videos or play back a locally stored file. Run a WebOS From Your S60 Browser

I am not a very WebOS person, however I am open to trying out new applications. Anuj from the N95 Community mentioned running Glide, a WebOS on the N95 I decided to give it a shot. Websites like Google are doing a pretty decent job syncing our content over the web through various applications like calender being accessible on the mobile. However a WebOS promises a complete experience and well, delivers in some cases!

rotateME v2.0 Beta 5 Officially Out

 

S60 wizard Samir has officially released the rotateME beta 5 for the general public! It is one of the most widely awaited applications ever and is compatible with the N95, N95 8GB and the N82 while a special version for N80, N73, E65, N81 is in the works.

Beta 5 brings a world of improvements, the biggest for me is the ability to hide the application from the default task manager! This is something I really wanted as it makes the experience complete, it is as if the rotate functionality comes inbuilt! The options to adjust sensitivity and reactivity work well and allow you to control the angle of tilt at which the screen rotates. The auto start option is also present. Brief: YBrowser Updated To v 0.85

Jukka Silvennoinen has updated the best file manager for S60 phones to v 0.85 and the update has brought stability under S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1! Also included are SVG images and two extra languages.

The usual add ons such as Mail Folder Plugin, Text Viewer Plugin etc are available from his website.

iPhone Optimised Websites On S60

 

Harri Salminen has written a neat little application called iPhonesque that makes websites believe that the phone you are using to browse is the iPhone and thus they present the iPhone optimised layout which is much more visually appealing.  Pages designed for iPhone are easier to read and they are visually more pleasing. Take a look at a few more screenshots on his blog for comparison.

He however also notes that inspite of the inherent similarity of both phones’ browsers, iPhonesque Google-pages in S60 don’t every time draw completely and some items seem to be missing. However its something really worth trying, I am installing the application as a write.

How To Protect Files On Your S60 Device

 

This is probably the most frequently asked question, ever! Everybody has certain photos, videos, songs and all sorts of other files which we want to hide from another person. Fortunately there are several 3rd party applications what allow us to do that, but unfortunately they are paid for!

However there are two ways in which you can not only hide files from the Gallery but also password protect them and the best part is that these methods cost nothing. In this post I will go over both of them.

 

Full YouTube On Your S60 v3 Device!

 

Yes, you read it correctly! You can now have access to any and I mean any video on youtube or any other flash video based website. There is no longer a need for converters or portals like m.vtap.com or the youtube mobile site. Forget them all!

Update: Forget all of this, just look up this post. It is a fully featured YouTube client with no effort involved.

Update: RotateMe wizard Samir has meanwhile released a Youtube player that lets you search for youtube videos and playthen directly on the phone. There’s just one glitch in the beta, you can only search for one word! Really worth a shot. Look here.

In this guide I will list out a few easy steps which will allow you to do so.

REQUIRMENTS:

1. Flash Lite 3 (Freeware) – Download! (Download if have registered at Adobe Labs or get it after registering from here)

2. Opera – Download!

3. CNPDA Flash Player (Freeware) – Download!

4. A S60v3 Phone e.g. N95, N93, N73, N83, N81, E90, E70 and so on.

Once the above is done with, lets start:

Google Maps Goes Symbian – Supports GPS!

 

This is huge! Our favourite Google Maps appliacation is now a native coded Symbian OS 9 client! This results in a much better overall performance, optimum RAM usage, faster loading and the greatest add on being support for internal and external GPS!

Being able to jump to an aerial view, in exquisite detail, of your current location, more or less anywhere in the world, without lifting a finger or giving the software any manual help, as Rafe and Steve put it is MAGICAL. You get lost, you open your N95 (or E90 or 6110, etc) and you’re almost instantly shown where you are and, after a couple more keypresses, given explicit directions to get home, overlaid on a traditional street map or the respected Google Maps satellite view.

The All In One Torch!

I, for one, find a torch to be a very convenient utility as many a time you find yourself groping for the light switch while in a dark room, searching for your keys on the bedside table or even trying to read the menu in a dark restaurant. The possibilities are endless! TM from The Series 60 Weblog has developed this wonderful freeware for our S60 v3 phones! It is comprises of both a screen light and a LED strobe light.
